A campaign for business school admission has much in common with a campaign for public office. Both contests are zero-sum games with clear winners and losers competing for a finite number of seats. Sound too good to be true? It is.
Amazon.com lists over 200 paperback books for sale on the topic of “MBA admissions.” Furthermore, the websites of various admissions consultants promote their own self-published guides, DVDs, etc. It seems like every week, there’s a new publication being touted on how to get into top b-schools.
The titles are quite alluring, with liberal use of terms like “insider” and “secret.” Some authors are veteran consultants, while others are relative newcomers. Although such publications can be very attractive to eager applicants and very profitable for the authors, there are five reasons why you’ll never find such a book coming from The MBA Exchange.

Sprint or Marathon: How will you run your race to the MBA application deadline?
There’s only a month left until Round 2 deadlines at most top-tier business schools. Even if you haven’t started preparing your applications, it’s very tempting to go for it. After all, your work experience isn’t going to change over the next 10 months. Your undergrad GPA can’t be improved. Your GMAT score is decent. Your personal activities are what they are. And you’re only getting older. So, you might as well make a dash for it, right? Ready, set….Not so fast.
