So, when will you start your MBA admissions campaign?

There are only 3 possible answers to this important question…

1. “Today.”
If you’re ready now to begin vetting your strengths, mitigating your weaknesses, framing your post-MBA goals, engaging with influencers, etc., then congratulations! You are going to maximize your chances for admission to a top b-school by making every minute count. Go for it!

2. “On X date.”
If you have immediate priorities in your personal or professional life that you need to resolve before launching your admissions campaign, that’s fine. The degree of self-awareness and self-improvement required to produce your best possible MBA candidacy requires intellectual and emotional bandwidth. So, by all means, estimate how long it will take you to clear the decks, then enter that date on your calendar. Make a commitment to yourself that, starting the next day, you will devote the necessary time and energy to achieving your MBA goals. Then, stick to that commitment.

3. “I don’t know yet.”
Kudos for your candor. However, the problem with this answer is that it reveals a deeper issue — you are not convinced that you really want and need an MBA education. Such procrastination can endanger your chances for future success if you do decide to pursue admission. And it can waste your time if you opt not to go to b-school. So, begin with some baby steps by exploring school websites and sitting down with trusted friends who are current MBA students or recent grads. Get a free, expert evaluation of your potential candidacy to see how competitive you’ll be. The sooner and more confidently you decide if an MBA is right for you, the sooner you can replace uncertainty with real progress.
