Business School Profile:
London Business School

Top rankings by Financial Times and BusinessWeek speak to the London Business School MBA program’s strength in core courses, differentiating electives, and leadership development. MBA Exchange clients are also drawn to the highly international culture at London Business School in which students hail from more than 120 countries. This results in diverse cohorts and a truly global alumni network. We think of this program as reflecting the best of all worlds — the Euro cool of an INSEAD or HEC with the pragmatism of a Columbia or Wharton.

First-year courses at London Business School are fixed and focus on core competencies. In the second year, students are afforded the ability to choose between a dozen electives from a large and varied portfolio. London MBA students learn through lectures (with an average of 75 students per class) and case discussions, supported by tutorials or workshops and in study groups of six or seven. Again, the “best of all worlds.”

Some themes that carry through the London b-school experience are leadership development and international competency. All students must study and become proficient in a language other than English, and many opt for an international exchange at one of over 30 partner schools. Internships and project work (such as the elective Shadowing Project) bring real-life context to the classroom experience.

This MBA program has another huge attraction: its links to industry and commerce. Located in London’s Regent’s Park – one of the world’s leading commercial and financial centers – the school benefits from regular visits by top consulting firms and leading senior executives. London itself is an entrepreneurial hotbed and, in terms of cultural opportunities, the city has no equal – theatre, history, diversity and remarkably easy to navigate. Of course, another big draw to this business school for our clients is London’s proximity to continental Europe. Weekends in Paris, Barcelona or Munich are enticing distractions that reward those who hit the books hard during the week.

When not studying, completing a project, or making connections in The City, London MBA students are involved in one of the over 100 student clubs or organizations. Visit the school’s official blog for a look inside the London MBA community. And if you don’t find a club you like, the school encourages students to start new ones that match their interests.
