Business School Profile:
Texas McCombs

From day one as a McCombs MBA student you will join a cohort and stay with them for your entire MBA. You will take your core classes together in project teams of five. From this group – selected for its diversity – students find friends for their MBA, their careers, and their lives.

The McCombs curriculum is built around the key pillars of: Knowledge and Understanding; Responsibility and Integrity; Communication and Collaboration; and a Worldview of Business and Society. Here, world-renowned faculty and ready access to industry leaders lead to abundant opportunities for real-world experience. All of this in powerful home base: Austin was recognized by Kiplinger’s Personal Finance magazine as “Best City for the Next Decade,” and #2 in Forbes’ ranking of “America’s Most Innovative Cities” And don’t get us started on the music scene (actually, keep reading; we get to it in a minute).

The core curriculum consists of eleven first-year required classes. Additionally, students take three electives in the spring semester year one. Unique to McCombs is the absence of a requirement to choose a concentration. Our clients have appreciated the option of customizing a program based on their strengths and interests, personal conclusions about how best to prepare for a successful career, and even individual perceptions of what employers want.

Texas MBA students are strongly encouraged to explore coursework offered by the many renowned graduate programs at UT Austin, pursuing electives in communications, community and regional planning, public affairs, engineering and law.

Austin also boasts scenic beauty, a generally laid-back atmosphere, a highly educated population and a lively arts and music scene. There are few places better on the planet to experience this than the famous Austin City Limits Festival in Zilker Park. But Austin has even more going for it for MBA students. Dubbed a “City of Ideas,” Austin is one of a handful of regions in the nation where creative entrepreneurs, business leaders, artists and visionaries are “reshaping the model for American prosperity.” As a McCombs MBA student you will benefit from strong relationships with the local business community, including research partnerships, visiting lecturers and recruiters. Austin is a town you will be happy to call home during your MBA and eager to return to as a proud graduate.
